What Is Mangal Dosha?
Mangal Dosha — also called Kuja Dosha or Manglik Dosha — is one of the most discussed concepts in Indian marriage astrology. It is formed when Mars (the planet of energy, aggression, and conflict) occupies the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th, or 12th house of the natal chart, counted from the Lagna, the Moon, or Venus. These houses relate to self, marriage, and partnership.
The traditional concern is that Mars in these positions can introduce conflict, delays, or incompatibility into married life — particularly when matched with a non-Manglik partner. However, classical texts also list extensive Bhanga (cancellation) rules that significantly reduce the dosha's effect. For full marriage compatibility analysis, use Ashtakoot kundli matching.
Bhanga — When the Dosha Cancels
Many people identified as "Manglik" actually have a cancelled Mangal Dosha. Major cancellation conditions include: Mars in its own sign (Aries, Scorpio) or exalted (Capricorn), Mars in Cancer or Leo (mild dosha), aspects from Jupiter, Jupiter or Venus in the 7th house, and a mutual Mangal Dosha with the partner. Our checker analyzes all these conditions and shows which apply to your chart. If you're concerned about other doshas, also try the Sade Sati and Kaal Sarp checkers.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Mangal Dosha?+
Mangal Dosha (also called Kuja Dosha or Manglik Dosha) is formed when Mars (Mangal) is placed in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th, or 12th house from the Lagna, Moon, or Venus in a birth chart. It is associated with potential challenges in marriage — delays, conflicts, or compatibility concerns. The severity depends on which house Mars occupies.
Am I Manglik even if Mars is well-placed?+
Classical Vedic astrology recognizes several Bhanga (cancellation) conditions. If Mars is in its own sign (Aries, Scorpio) or exalted (Capricorn), the dosha is largely cancelled. If Mars is in Cancer or Leo, the effect is mild. Aspects from benefics like Jupiter or placement of Jupiter in the 7th house also reduce severity. Many 'Manglik' charts are actually Bhanga-cancelled.
Manglik can only marry Manglik?+
This is a common belief but oversimplified. Traditional rule says two charts with mutual Mangal Dosha cancel each other's dosha. However, modern Vedic astrologers consider the full chart — strength of 7th house, dasha alignment, mutual planetary aspects, and other doshas. A non-Manglik with strong Mars and a Manglik with cancellation can be highly compatible.
What are the remedies for Mangal Dosha?+
Traditional remedies include: chanting Mangal mantras (especially on Tuesdays), wearing red coral (Munga) under astrological guidance, fasting on Tuesdays, performing Hanuman puja, and Kumbh Vivah (a symbolic marriage to a tree or pot before the actual marriage) for severe cases. Always consult a qualified astrologer before adopting remedies.
